The Phillips Plays
Artist Process: Sam Gilliam
Join us for The Phillips Plays, our monthly family-friendly program.
During the fall and winter, we invite kids and caregivers to explore the creative processes of artists in our permanent collection. In August, we’ll find inspiration in Sam Gilliam’s experimental approach to creating art and mirror how he plays with color, scale, and fabric in our Art Workshop.
In addition to exploring art materials and methods in the studio, families may enjoy the carpeted, creative-play area with blocks, books, toys, and games.
Want to learn more about and experience the work of Sam Gilliam?
Check out Art-Play-Practice at Phillips@THEARC, the museum’s satellite location in Southeast DC. This inaugural installation is inspired by Gilliam’s Broad Cape (1972) and invites all ages to play while exploring art in a hands-on, imaginative way.
