Stop by the Imagination Gallery, located on floor 2L of the Phillips House. Look closely at artworks by Jennifer Wen Ma and Alexander Calder. Stay and create your own imaginative work.

Tips for Your Visit with Kids

  • Before your visit, browse our collection online to discover artworks currently on view. To prepare kids for their visit and build anticipation, show them pictures of a few artworks they might see at the museum.
  • During your visit, make a game of searching for these artworks, asking: How is the original different from the online image? What surprises you?

  • Remember to look at the art with your eyes, not your hands. Did you know the natural oils on our fingers can damage them? Please stay two feet away from the art. Instead, to keep hands busy, you may bring drawing paper and a #2 pencil.
  • Adults should stay with kids throughout the duration of their visit.

  • Strollers are welcome in the museum, except for the Rothko Room.
  • Limited stroller parking is available in designated areas near the museum’s coat check. Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The museum is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.

  • Changing tables are located in the restrooms on Sant Building Lower Levels 1 and 2 and House Floor 2L.
  • Need water or a snack? Drinking fountains can be found on Lower Levels 1 and 2 as well as the bridge on Annex Floor 2. You can enjoy other drinks or snacks in the Hunter Courtyard (weather permitting) or Lower Level 2.
  • Nursing parents are welcome anywhere in the museum, though quieter areas with seating may be found on Lower Levels 1 and 2 as well as the Imagination Gallery in Gallery B.
  • Museum staff can help with directions and museum maps are at the front desk.

  • Feel free to sit on the furniture or floor while exploring our galleries. The Hunter Courtyard (weather permitting) and Lower Levels 1 and 2 have additional seating and room for spreading out.

To engage kids in thoughtful conversations about art, try these prompts below or one of our gallery games:

  • Look closely. What shapes can you find in the artwork?
  • Imagine you could step into an artwork. Use your five senses to explore.
  • Share your favorite artwork in this gallery. How do the colors in that artwork make you feel?
