Gala Honoree: Pat Steir

Pat Steir (1938-2026) is widely recognized for her paintings, drawings, prints, and installations which have been exhibited in museums and galleries internationally since the 1960s. In the late 1980s Steir developed her iconic Waterfall paintings by pouring paint and allowing gravity to shape the figure of the waterfall, a radical and singular approach to the medium defined by her relinquishing control to forces of nature outside of herself. Steir is a recipient of the International Medal of Arts from the United States Department of State and has been honored by numerous universities and colleges for her cultural advocacy and pioneering work in the arts. Steir is the subject of the acclaimed documentary Pat Steir: Artist, 2020.

Gala Honoree: Fundació Joan Miró

The Fundació Joan Miró is a museum and creative space as unique and inspiring as the artist who created it. Personally established by Joan Miró, the institution opened to the public on June 10, 1975, and has since become a reference point where Miró’s art coexists with the artistic creation of today. Beyond staging pioneering exhibitions of 20th and 21st century art, the Fundació organizes public and social programs in collaboration with institutions and organizations around the world, promoting creativity and critical thinking through innovative methodologies. Housed in a building designed by Josep Lluís Sert, it stands as a rare example of collaborative dialogue between artist and architect.
