ArtLinks, The Phillips Collection’s multi-visit school partnership program, enhances students’ classroom learning through arts integration. In fall 2023, the Phillips Education Department worked with Inspired Teaching Demonstration School staff to create a project that included a professional development session with upper school teachers, a tour of African Modernism in America, 1947-67, and art-making that connected to the school curriculum. Inspired by Manyolo Estella Betty’s Cattle People, students created mixed-media projects that incorporated the art-making traditions of the Bahima people of Uganda, while reflecting on current environmental issues. These artworks are displayed at ITDS this fall.
