Carne Y Arena: Art and Technology

This program will be a discussion about the ways art and advancing technology overlap. CARNE y ARENA, a six-and-a-half-minute solo experience based on true accounts from Central American and Mexican refugees, blurs and binds together the superficial lines between subject and bystander. The five-year process of developing the state-of-the-art virtual reality technology allows visitors to physically live a fragment of a refugee’s personal journey. Using CARNE y ARENA as a model, the program will address art as technology and vice versa; the future of technology in artistic practices; and how technology can advance and create impacting immersive experiences. The program will be a moderated conversation between Jenna Pirog (Senior Director of Immersive Experiences at National Geographic and former virtual reality editor at the New York Times) and Academy Award-winning Director Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Director of CARNE y ARENA). Ticketholders are welcome to join us for a reception preceding the event starting at 5:30 pm.
