Event Details
For over 20 years, Frances Stark has created collage, drawings, videos, performances, and paintings that engage with issues of self-presentation in the hyper-connected Internet age. In the last few years, Stark’s videos have captured the anthropological transformation of life and love in front of the computer screen. In 2015 she was awarded the Absolut Art Award for her proposal to realize a pedagogical opera, in which music and education are mixed to tell a recent history of America.
Her recent solo shows include a largescale survey at The Hammer Museum in Los Angeles and a survey of video and digital works at The Art Institute of Chicago. She participated in the 2013 Carnegie International, the 2011 Venice Biennale, and the 2008 Whitney Biennial. She is also known for her lo-fi Cat Videos, started in 1999, and her Instagram feed, @therealstarkiller.
