Point of View: Art & Primary Sources
Integrating Art into Classroom Curricula with The Phillips Collection & University of Maryland
Point of View: Art & Primary Sources brings together paintings from the special exhibition Bonnard’s Worlds (on view at The Phillips Collection from March 2 to June 2, 2024) and archival materials from The Phillips Collection Library. Correspondence, newspaper articles, and essays tell the story of museum founder Duncan Phillips’s immediate and long-lasting affection for the works of Pierre Bonnard. But while Phillips’s eye was trained on Bonnard, who and what was in the periphery? How can we take these 20th-century narratives and reframe them to find power and meaning today? Together, we will consider the perspectives of critics, curators, and other creators to broaden the narrative as we develop strategies for pairing art and documents in the classroom.

The Phillips Collection and University of Maryland partner to offer professional development courses for PK-12 educators. The courses provide opportunities to integrate the visual arts seamlessly into the core curriculum, using The Phillips Collection’s Prism.K12 arts integration strategies and resources. Educators will expand their understanding of and skills in arts integration by planning, practicing, and implementing arts-integrated lessons in their classroom. Through online engagement and hands-on practice with students, the courses are delivered through virtual or in-person learning in collaboration with the University of Maryland and The Phillips Collection.
