Event Details

Made in the USA curator Susan Frank discusses the insights gained by looking thematically at American art from the late 19th century through the mid-20th century, when American art became internationally recognized. The exhibition, which is organized into 12 thematic sections, gives context to well-known artists like John Sloan, Georgia O’Keeffe, Edward Hopper, Charles Sheeler, Mark Rothko, and Adolph Gottlieb, but also allows lesser known but equally compelling artists to share the stage. The result is an exciting re-evaluation of the diversity of American art and the multiplicity of competing ideas about what is American about American art in the first half of the 20th century.
