About the Artist

Born in Izhevsk, Udmurtia, near Tchaikovsky’s birthplace, Asiya Korepanova started playing piano at age 4. She gave her first full solo recital on the philharmonic stage at age 8 and subsequently appeared performing Mozart’s Eighth Concerto with a cadenza written by her. She completed her tertiary school education in Moscow Central Music School, graduating with degrees both in piano performance and composition.

From 2001–2006, Korepanova studied with Professor Elisso Virssaladze in the Moscow State Chopin College and the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. In 2009 she was chosen as the best graduate from the piano faculty of St. Petersburg Conservatory. She is currently pursuing a DMA at the Frost School of Music in Miami, studying with Professor Santiago Rodriguez.

Korepanova has won numerous competitions, most recently the first prize and gold medal at the 2012 Wideman International Piano Competition in Shreveport, Louisiana.  Other notable successes include first-prizes at the Rubinstein International Piano Competition (1997), the Classical Heritage Competition (1997) and the Young Artists Scriabin Competition (1998). At age 12 Korepanova was awarded the Russian Federation President Award for exceptional achievements in the arts. Since 1999 she has been supported by the International Charity Foundation of Vladamir Spivakov.

Her extensive repertoire includes more than fifty concertos with orchestra including the complete concertos of Prokofiev, Beethoven, Rachmaninov, Brahms, Liszt, Chopin and Ravel. Her solo repertoire includes major works by Bach, Liszt, Chopin, Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky, among many others.

Since childhood Korepanova has also pursued graphic arts and poetry. In 1994 and 1998 she published two collections of her combined poems and drawings. Since 2007 she has combined her artistic pursuits in a unique new project that features fundamental works in the piano repertoire accompanied by her poetic and artistic responses to them. She has presented drawings and poems set to works by Bach and Liszt, to great critical response.
