For Georges Braque and the Cubist Still Life, 1928–1945, this exhibition, conservators and conservation scientists conducted a technical study of Braque’s paintings, focusing on works dating between 1928 and 1944. During this time, Braque deliberately manipulated materials for compositional effect and often returned to canvases to alter them and rework the paint surface. This direct examination of his paintings led to new discoveries about his working methods, palette, pigments, and the layering structure and composition of his materials.
