As the first American museum of modern art, The Phillips Collection has a long-standing commitment to supporting research into modern art through its on-site library and archives. In 2006, the library and archives moved into a new, modern library space, including a large reading room, workroom, workstations, and other facilities. Since then, an ambitious, multiyear cataloging initiative has allowed the library to launch its first online catalog, which it continues to expand through additional finding aids, oral histories, and other resources.
You can help the Phillips library and archives to continue moving forward as a high-quality, specialized resource for modern art research through two initiatives:
Digital bookplates displayed on the library's Web site and linked to specific works in the catalog acknowledge the generosity of library donors and friends.
The Phillips Collection is conducting professional oral history interviews with Phillips family members, former directors, current and former staff members, and others. You can help fund the costs for an interview, which may include preparatory research, a transcription fee, and travel.
