Sunday Concerts at The Phillips Collection offer classical chamber music in the intimacy of the museum's oak-paneled Music Room. An important part of Washington's cultural life since 1941, the concerts have featured ensembles and soloists ranging from Glenn Gould, Jessye Norman, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and Emmanuel Ax to some of the most talented young musicians performing today.
The museum's founder, Duncan Phillips, believed that the same philosophical model for art holds true for music. The concerts' consistent attention to the relationship between tradition and innovation has resulted in one of the richest and most varied chamber music concert series in the United States.
Sunday Concerts are held from October through May. They begin promptly at 4 pm. Seating is limited and unreserved; early arrival is strongly recommended. Admission to each concert is $20, $8 for members, free for Patrons and Circle members.
Starting in 2009, Sunday Concerts will be followed by question and answer Coda Sessions with the soloists. Hosted by the Phillips music director, Caroline Mousset, the sessions will give audience members a chance to ask questions and converse with these extraordinary musicians.
