Camerata Spotlight! Ricardo Morales

Each of the outstanding artists in The Phillips Camerata enjoys a reputation of international stature in today's classical music landscape. Ricardo Morales, clarinet, was recently appointed principal clarinet of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. His résumé includes eight seasons as principal clarinet of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Before joining the Philadelphia Orchestra, he was principal clarinet of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, a position he assumed at the age of 21 under the direction of James Levine. Hailed by the New York Times for his "fleet technique, utterly natural musical grace, and the lyricism and breath control of a fine opera singer," Morales has earned his place among the world's finest clarinetists performing today.

Hear Ricardo Morales in the Camerata's first concert, October 9, 2011, at 4 pm at The Phillips Collection, in which he will demonstrate the virtuosic capacity of his instrument in Carl Maria von Weber's charming Clarinet Quintet.
