Before immigrating to Washington, D.C., from Ukraine, Elena Ulyanova was awarded full scholarships for study in Moscow at the Gnessin Academy of Music and the Moscow Conservatory. A winner of the Momontov competition, she also became a prizewinner in the second Rachmaninov International Piano Competition in Moscow. Ms. Ulyanova received a Master of Music degree from Moscow Conservatory and performed regularly for the Moscow Philharmonic Concert Association (Moskonzert). She pursued postgraduate study with Russian pianist Victor Merzhanov and has studied with Emanual Krasovsky, Victor Derevianko, Jerome Rose, Oxana Yablonskaya, John O’Connor, Howard Shelley, and Leslie Howard.

In 2008, Ms. Ulyanova won two Grand Prizes for her DVD video performances in the Golden Trophy International Music Competition featuring her Myra Hess Series concert and Kabalevsky’s Piano Concerto no. 3 with the American Balalaika Symphony.

Ms. Ulyanova has performed orchestra, chamber, and solo concerts with orchestras such as the Vienna Musikverein Orchestra, the Moscow Radio Symphony, State Russian Orchestra “Boyan”, and the Omsk Philharmonic. Among her appearances in the United States, she has performed in the Dame Myra Hess Series and Fazioli Salon Series in Chicago, the Las Vegas Philharmonic's Connoisseur Series, Concerts Grand in San Francisco, Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, Yamaha Pianos Concert Series, and Bargemusic.
