Morris Louis's Seal at the Phillips
(Sep 8, 2011)
National Gallery of Art Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art Harry Cooper considers Morris Louis's technique and aesthetics in the painting Seal.
In the 1960s, the Phillips's colorist tradition found new expression in the Washington Color School and the pure stains of Morris Louis. Seal, a recent gift from the Marcella Brenner Revocable Trust, is showcased with four drawings and three paintings as part of the museum’s 90th anniversary celebration.
