Program

Founded in 2001, Trio Solisti (violinist Maria Bachmann, cellist Alexis Pia Gerlach, and pianist Fabio Bidini) performs regularly at major venues and series in the US including The Great Performers at Lincoln Center and with the Washington Performing Arts at the Kennedy Center. At Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in 2015, Trio Solisti presented the complete piano chamber music of Brahms in a series praised by The Strad for its “abundant dynamism, exceptional balance, and a wholly successful grasp of the interpretive essence.” For their Phillips Music debut, Trio Solisti will perform works by three composers whose work lies at the core of the piano trio repertoire: Schubert’s Notturno, Dvořák’s deeply-felt Piano Trio in G minor, composed in 16 days in January 1876, and Piano Trio in C Major by Brahms.

Program:

FRANZ SCHUBERT (1797-1828)
Notturno in E-flat Major, D897

ANTONÍN DVOŘÁK (1841-1904)
Piano Trio in G minor, Op. 26

INTERMISSION

JOHANNES BRAHMS (1833-97)
Piano Trio in C Major, Op. 87

About the Artists

Trio Solisti’s distinction as “the most exciting piano trio in America” (The New Yorker) has been affirmed in recent rave reviews: “the superlative Trio Solisti gave an immaculate and insightful performance”(The Dallas Chamber Music Society - Theater Jones), “a compelling performance…Trio Solisti really knocked it out of the ballpark” (Chamber Music Monterrey Bay - Peninsula Reviews), and “the most fully explored, interestingly probed, and fully engaged [performance of the Brahms Trio in B Major] that I’ve ever experienced. Chamber music connoisseurs should absolutely not miss Trio Solisti ”(Rockport Chamber Music Festival - The Boston Musical Intelligencer). Noted Wall Street Journal critic Terry Teachout proclaimed the ensemble to be “the group that to my mind has now succeeded the Beaux Arts Trio as the outstanding chamber music ensemble of its kind,” and The New Yorker described it as “probably the finest American piano trio currently on the field.”

Founded in 2001, Trio Solisti, comprised of violinist Maria Bachmann, cellist Alexis Pia Gerlach, and pianist Fabio Bidini, performs at major venues and series across the US. The 2018/2019 season includes their return to Weill Recital Hall for a three-concert series; their initial 2015 series there featured the complete piano chamber music by Brahms in performances hailed by The Strad for their “abundant dynamism, exceptional balance, and a wholly successful grasp of the interpretive essence.” Additional highlights of the 2018/2019 season include appearances at People’s Symphony Concerts at Town Hall in New York, The Phillips Collection in Washington, DC, Music at Kohl Mansion in San Francisco, Friends of Chamber Music in Portland, OR, Arizona Musicfest in Scottsdale, and Ensemble Music Society of Indianapolis. Among their performances in previous seasons were appearances at Great Performers and Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center, Washington Performing Arts at Kennedy Center, Chamber Music Society of Detroit, The Friends of Chamber Music Kansas City, and La Jolla Music Society’s Revelle Series.

The Trio’s collaborations with preeminent composers of our time have produced such works as Pulitzer Prize-winner Jennifer Higdon’s Piano Trio No. 2 (2017), Paul Moravec’s Tempest Fantasy, which won the Pulitzer in 2004, Lowell Liebermann’s Trio No. 3 (2012), and Pulitzer Prize-winner Kevin Puts’s Living Frescoes (2012).

The Trio’s newest recording is an all-Brahms album, to be released on Bridge Records in early 2019. Their previous recordings include Tchaikovsky & Rachmaninoff, Ravel & Chausson, Dvořák, Café Music, Tempest Fantasy, and the ensemble’s own arrangement of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.

Trio Solisti is the founding ensemble of Telluride Musicfest, an annual summer chamber music festival in Telluride, Colorado. The festival’s 2019 season (its 14th) celebrates the music of Antonin Dvořák. The Trio also proudly marks its 14th year as Ensemble-in-Residence at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York.
