Art of the City, a teaching kit for K-12 educators, presents innovative educational approaches to urban works of art from The Phillips Collection, including paintings by Edward Hopper, Jacob Lawrence, and Paul Klee. From train stations to sports stadiums, these images have been selected for their accessibility to children.
By addressing themes such as transportation and community, the Art of the City teaching kit connects art to social studies, language arts, math, French studies, and English as a second language (ESL). This kit was developed with teachers across the curriculum to meet specific National Standards of Learning. It received the 2004 Award for Excellence in Published Resources in the "Across the Curriculum" category from the American Association of Museums.
