Library and Archives Assistant

 

Position: Library and Archives Assistant

Overview:

The Phillips Collection Library is seeking assistance with a variety of archives and library projects. The majority of the assistant's time will be devoted to archives, focusing on processing tasks relating to The Phillips Collection's curatorial exhibition records. 

The library contains material that supports research on works of art in the museum's permanent collection and the history of the museum. Its primary users are the museum's curators and educators, as well as other museum staff. The library is open to visiting researchers by appointment. The library's non-circulating collection comprises approximately 9,500 books, which focus on nineteenth and twentieth century European and American art. The museum's archives contain the writings of Duncan Phillips, the museum's founder, and a wide array of source material on the history of the museum.

Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Process curatorial exhibition records and other museum records using standard archival procedures.
  • Prepare a finding aid, or written research guide for each processed collection.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited MLS program, or have an MLS.
  • Archives coursework and/or practical experience are prerequisites for assisting with archives projects.
  • Undergraduate degree in art history or studio art a plus.
  • Must have strong writing skills.
  • Must be accurate with attention to detail.

Pay Rate: $11.59
