Overview:
The intern will work with members of The Phillips Collection's Communications and Marketing and IT staff.
Duration: A minimum of eight continuous weeks and at least 16 hours per week is preferred. However, depending upon the needs of a given department, internship length and schedule may vary.
Academic Credit: Depending on the nature of the internship and approval of the student's college or university, academic credit may be granted for internships. Student applicants should consult their academic advisor for additional information.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
The intern will provide web and administrative support to digital media manager, while learning a wide variety of skills. Tasks will include, but are not limited to, the following: Maintaining CMS-based web-site, updating content and data entry, resizing and uploading images and other content, working with content providers, and proofreading.
The intern applies and is guided by overall departmental philosophy, goals, and objectives and adopts museum policy and practices.
The intern should have had hands-on experience with:
• Multiple forms of digital media and their respective file types (video, images, audio, websites)
• X/HTML/5, CSS/3, XML (creating and publishing rss feeds and podcasts)
• Moderate to advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Fireworks)
• Photo editing
• Social media and content distribution platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Vimeo, Youtube)
• Mac and PC systems
Familiarity with or working knowledge of:
• Web analytics
• Best practices and W3C standards
• Content Management Systems
• Digital Asset Management (working with image exif and metadata)
• Podcasts
• Digital trends
Requirements and Qualifications:
• Interactive Media and Web Design/Development majors preferred (or equivalent experience)
• Enthusiasm for and experience with digital media and website creation and construction
• Ability to take instructions and perform repetitive tasks
• Strong attention to detail
• Time management skills
• Organizational and administrative skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and with others
• Interest in fine arts, museums a plus
